I think you might have an earlier version of the arm, not the 'II-improved' but the 'II'. That cable connector block was standard on all SME arms almost from the beginning (the very first version from the mid 50's was a little different). Good way for SME to get into the largest hi-fi market in the world at the time, and a good way for Shure to get their top end V15 put on a good arm. Back in the early 60's SME and Shure must have had a distribution agreement of some sort because you see the SME arm used in Shure ads - makes sense as Shure had a large dealer network already established and SME was (initially) a small UK company making a very good arm.

The 'Shure' version of the 3009 was installed stock an a huge number of Thorens table (especially TD-125s). If you can find an auction for mid 1960s 'SME' 3009 you'll see it has all the traits you decribed for the 'Shure' version. I think the sticker is different - that's all.
